Nancy, 2021
Nancy Bell has been a faithful volunteer with the NorthEast community for five years. After hearing Laura preach at St. Andrews Church, the mission of NorthEast tugged at her heart. One day, a woman at her Bible study mentioned they needed volunteers with Loaves and Fishes, a team of volunteers who made homecooked meals for our community gatherings. This resonated with her.

“I went the following Monday and right away I was like oh this is right up my alley. And I seriously thought to myself, I am going to be running this someday because it was such a good fit.”

After a few years of serving, Nancy felt called to do more.

“My youngest of 4 left for Air Force Basic Training in December 2019. So now I am an empty nester after 26 years. Laura was the featured speaker at the St. Andrews Womens’ Retreat - literally days before the lock down in March 2020. She moved and motivated me to really grip that I have a new purpose and that it is to build God's Kingdom. I changed my life verse to 1 Corinthians 15:58 - I was just lead to that verse and when I read it I knew I could do more. I understand fully that not everyone can start the world on fire but changing the heart and soul of one person is worth all your time and effort!”

Nancy is now the head of our Loaves and Fishes Team, carrying on a tradition in a new season.

“Kristi Bustamante is the one who created Loaves and Fishes, so I am not reinventing the wheel, I am just carrying the torch. Loaves and Fishes itself is just a tiny subset. What we are there for is to serve NorthEast of the Well and the ladies and gentlemen in our community.  It really sums it up that we are cooking to feed their bodies, but it really is all about feeding their soul. I want the people to feel like this is a family, this is the body of Christ...and I want them to feel dignity. I want them to know we are serving you and we love it. Every week we try to be better than before. It’s really about service and I know from a lot of the people that it’s the food that gets them in there and that can then bring them to the sanctuary and then becoming a follower. I think it’s important that people feel loved and dignified.”

Nancy Bell and her team of volunteers continue to bless us with wonderful family-style meals at our Monday night gatherings and we are so grateful to have her as a partner with our ministry!
